It’s really a great self-driving safari trip🎖️Although I didn’t see BIG 5 this time, it’s a pityBut it's still full of interesting wildlife. And the tour routes inside are continuing to expand!I hope to have the opportunity to see more animals in the future. If you want to see black panthers, etc., more special animals,You have to pay more to have a tour guide take you around. In the carnivore area, there is a very exciting feeding show at 12 noon. You can enter the park early and you can see it on your return trip.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We had the absolute pleasure of working with Doreen & Sfiso while hosting international clients, and our experience at Lion & Safari Park was nothing short of fantastic. From the start, Doreen made the booking process seamless, handling everything with professionalism and a warm, welcoming attitude. When we finally met her in person, it was an absolute joy! Given the nature of our visit, we had to prepare for two weeks of international guest arrivals, which led us to book a second tour at the park—and we were just as impressed the second time around! On our second visit, Matilda was our guide, and what a wonderful lady she is! She kept our guests engaged and entertained throughout the experience, making the tour truly memorable. To Doreen and the entire team at Lion & Safari Park—thank you for setting such a high standard for customer service. Your dedication and passion truly shine, and we appreciate everything you do. Keep up the incredible work! 🌟🦁Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had the most amazing experience today ! Friendly and helpful staff, - good food and our children had the most fantastic time. We will definitely visit again x
The Lion and Safari Park is an unforgettable experience. We opted for the self-drive, which was absolutely beautiful and allowed us to get incredibly close to the animals, especially the lions – a breathtaking sight! Along the way, we spotted giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, bucks, impalas, a dung beetle, a tortoise, and more. The scenery was stunning throughout, making the drive even more enjoyable. The staff were helpful and super friendly, adding to the overall great experience. We visited on a Thursday and the park was quiet which was lovely, but I can imagine they get very busy during holidays and weekends.Highly recommended for wildlife enthusiasts!
The park is amazing, and the reception ladies are well informative, moving to the restaurant, the food was great, and the service was amazing. The self drive is definitely amazing, though there was something that unsettled off my gut at the kiosk, one of the ladies was shouting at a staff member I can't recall for what but I couldn't bare the thoughts of the other lady being embarrassed and humiliated during many of us buying things at the Kiosk.. if this is how management condemns the behavior, I was really let down kindly please give tgat lady a formal training on hoe she should react to her collegues infront of customers. Nonetheless, you have yourself a beautiful place. I will definitely make it with family next again!
Value for money now as the park has been extended. Previously the drive was very short but now if u do the entire park it can take 2-3 hours. Lots of animals to see and friendly staff. The facilities are good with reasonable food at the restaurants.
We saw lots of animals but the lions were the most impressive. The entrance fee is low and for less than 500 ZAR we made the self drive. So we could stop and watch the lions for longer. It is also possible to do the tour twice. You can turn left just before the exit.
Great place to spend the day. If you have a 4x4, they have nice easy routes for you to navigate. The higher levels are clearly marked but make sure you are with experienced 4x4 people. There are normal routes for normal cars to see the animals. No 4x4 needed. Nice restaurant onsite, but we did not have time to eat there. Only pitfall for us South African is the cost to enter.
Love it. Well maintained and different ways to explore. You can book a safari drive with a guide or go on a self-drive. Love the fact that the cages are big enough for the wild animals. All the animals are well kept after. Nice restaurant to have a traditional meal. Well worth a visit.
Went on a Sunday and it wasn’t as busy as it usually is which is great. The tickets are affordable. Went a self-drive, got there just in time for feeding at noon and it was an amazing experience to see the lions and they were just focusing on their meal and not the cars around them. Then we saw giraffes and zebras by the water hole. We didn’t see any hyenas in their enclosure. We only saw two cheetahs (they hide under trees mostly so it’s not easy to spot them). The boring part of the drive was the loop - my advice don’t bother especially because there’s no animals in the loop and the rocks there are sharp enough to damage your tyres. The service is great and it was a hot day so keep the windows closed and turn on that AC. It would be nice if they had a family restaurant and a kiddies play area.I’d recommend for a day visit with family and friends.
Self drive at the park was one of the most unique experiences we've had, driving so close to wildlife, particularly all the lions. The lions were not very active when we visited at noon, but still, it was breathtaking to see the majestic animal up close. We visited around noon on a weekday, and it there were almost no other visitors -- it was like we had the place to ourselves. Another highlight was the giraffe, who gave us ample opportunities to take numerous selfies. The drive itself to the rest of the park is also quite enjoyable. They no longer keep lion cubs, and giraffe feeding was not available at the time of our visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We checked in online and found the place easily. We loved the fact that we could drive around the enclosures as many times as we liked. We opted for a self drive which gave us an opportunity to really get up close to the lions. We also stayed to watch a feeding in one of the enclosures. We went all the way to the wild dogs enclosures but did not see much because they were napping. We took a walk around the reception area and had ice cream from the curing shop. We exited through the 5 domes and did a bit of shopping. I recommend this place for family outings, it's exciting
Absolutely amazing experience, coming as a tourist - this was such a great tour. You can self-drive through the park with different lion species 🦁 and you get to see other animals too, like giraffes 🦒 and wild dogs. You can also look at how they feed the lions - it was so interesting to see how the males choose which piece of meat they want to eat. At the end of the tour you can also buy souvenirs. Couldn't recommend more. 🦁
Loved it! Went there for my birthday. Our guide (the one in the picture) was great, funny and knowledgeable. We got to pet the giraffe during our 2 hour guided tour.
Great place for a safe and close encounter with lions. Guided and self drives allowed and no need for 4x4 vehicles as terrain is tame. Horse riding, quad biking available but no more lion cub petting offered. Gift shop is excellent and so is onsite restaurant for relaxed quality meals.
If it was any more expensive, I would say the prices are too high. But it's just enough to get your money's worth. It's a great experience for tourists and foreigners. There are giraffes walking around everywhere, and you can feed and interact with them, which is beautiful. You can go on a safari type drive, depending on the package, you can see the lions being fed, and see the cheetas, hyenas, and leopards. Some packages have snacks and more. It's the closest and best experience I've had with lions, although it's not in the wild. They make sure you are safe, and the tour guide gave us facts about the animals as we went.I felt that our tour guide was quite rude when we were done with our tour. It seems like she got upset because she maybe didn't receive enough tips to her liking. So it seems like they expect you to pay for the tour and give extra cash on top of that for tips. The dancers outside were also waiting for us and tried to convince us to pay for them to dance. I guess this is how we are with tourists. The venue is a little far out, kind of on the way to Harties. The road isn't great, but worst of all, on the way to the venue, at 9:30 AM in the morning, our foreign friends from the UK got harassed and robbed by the police. They threatened to take them to jail for no reason. They had to pay them quite an amount for the police to let them go. It's a shame that these great locations provide these risks for foreigners and locals.By this rate, we're going to chase all the foreigners away, and the government's going to have to take more money from locals because foreigners aren't spending their money here and locals are too scared to go places. If it's not the criminals stealing from people, it's the police. When we had food at the restaurant, the service was nothing special, nor the food. The animal enclosures by the kid's play area had no animals and were grown closed by plants because of no maintenance.Overall, I feel we had a great experience, just sad how some things are.
We visited on the 29th December, booked and paid online for a self drive. Got there early and it was still rather quite. The place was well kept, orderly, clean and neat. Toilets were well cleaned and taken care of.As we opted for the self drive we had a chance to take our time to spot the lions in the enclosure and view the wildlife in the open area. The lion and cheetah enclosures are rather small and one must remember these are not wild, but caged animals. Nevertheless it’s was good to see them up close. We were fortunate in that we saw an abundance of wildebeest, giraffe, bontebok, zebra, warthogs and the oryx/gemsbok. We found to route to be manageable with a mid size SUV.The disappointment was the restaurant. After a great self drive, we sat down to order, waiting around 40 mins for the food to arrive only for 2 of our meals to arrive partially cold. I had the brisket & wors with pap combo and it was terrible - cold, overcooked meat, bitter spinach and all round off putting. I had to send one of the meals back to get warm.Overall a fantastic visit and definitely worth a repeat visit.
Great to move around among the lions, they are not really in their natural environment since they are parked and fed but it is halfway between a zoo and a reserve.
We visited Lion park on 26 December with the kids. We were pleasantly surprised that it was not packed as it was a public holiday. There was plenty of parking. We took a lovely stroll around the beautifully kept vicinity. There are plenty of toilets on site and areas to wash hands. Kids had fun at the play area and enjoyed ice cream. We chose the self drive as I felt more comfortable travelling in our own car with all our kids (kids under 10). We bought the tickets at the venue. We were lucky to see the lions feeding at 3pm. A really awesome experience and highly recommended outing for the family. Just a heads up, the walk back to the exit is just shop after shop after shop filled with beautifully handmade local goodies to spoil yourself and your loved ones 😉.
Lions, Cheetahs, Hyenas, Wild dogs, Giraffe, Zebra, Buck and many more animals that can be seen at this park just an hour from Johannesburg. Great place to go for overseas visitors and educating the children. Definitely worth a visit
I wanted an interesting outing for the kids during school holidays. We visited the park on a Saturday morning and we had an amazing time. We opted for the 11:30 slot as it included the lions feeding schedule. I booked online and that was helpful as most slot are taken by the time you arrive and it also lessens the waiting time.
Really great experience from the friendly and helpful staff to the interesting facts and viewings of the animals.I did the sunset tour and saw a lion feeding which was quite interesting. Along the way we saw Wild African dogs, warthogs, wildabeasts, antelopes, cheetahs, giraffes, lions, leopards, hyenas, and porcupines. This is a zoo, a sanctuary style zoo, but if you are expecting a fully wild safari you should go to Krueger National Park. This place is great for those beginning their safari excursions though!
If I were to say that my experience was AMAZING it’d be an understatement. I had a wonderful time, The staff, the place is beautiful and clean. The Lions are huge by the way but The Female one was very friendly. Also giraffe interaction was really fun- wanna have a great day? Try it out.Happy!!!
