Our Commitment to Conservation

Focused on the future of Africa’s wildlife through education, preservation, and protection.

Conservation Fee

As part of our commitment to conservation, a conservation fee of R30 is added to all activities, and a 3% conservation levy is applied to all restaurant sales. These funds assist in protecting our natural heritage, restoring habitats, and supporting long-term conservation efforts for species native to this area. Thank you for being part of our conservation journey.

Your Conservation Fee at Work

These contributions support vital habitat restoration projects and ecological initiatives focused on the protection of species that naturally occur in this area. The funds also aid ongoing rehabilitation projects and research taking place here. Through your support, we can continue to preserve this important wildlife space and ensure its sustainability for generations to come.

Biodiversity Awareness

At Lion & Safari Park, biodiversity awareness is a key focus. We are dedicated to educating visitors about the importance of every species in maintaining a healthy and balanced ecosystem. Through guided tours and conservation talks, we highlight how animals, plants and their habitats are all connected. By promoting understanding and respect for South Africa’s natural heritage, we aim to inspire a lasting commitment to protecting biodiversity.

Conservation Education

The Lion & Safari Park bridges the gap between the public and wildlife through immersive experiences designed to inform and inspire. School programmes, educational tours, and interpretive content raise awareness, while ethical wildlife practices ensure the welfare of all animals is prioritised. The park continues to evolve, shifting away from outdated models towards sustainable, experience-led tourism.

Research Collaboration & Wildlife Monitoring

The park supports local and international research initiatives by providing access for scientific studies on behaviour, genetics, and species health. Tools such as tagging, behavioural observation, and health screenings help build the data needed to inform larger conservation strategies.

Community Engagement & Youth Development

With a focus on inclusivity and long-term impact, the park invests in youth outreach, conservation mentorships, and community partnerships. These initiatives are aimed at empowering future conservationists, particularly from marginalised and surrounding communities.

At the Lion & Safari Park, our conservation work extends beyond the experience you see when you visit. We partner with researchers, run biodiversity awareness programmes, rescue and rehabilitate wildlife in need, and engage with local communities to inspire and equip the next generation of conservation leaders. These initiatives take time, expertise, and resources to grow and sustain.

In recent years, threats to wildlife and their habitats have increased, and the need for education, research, rescue, and restoration has become even more urgent. By introducing a dedicated conservation fee, we can strengthen and expand these efforts, ensuring they have a lasting impact. Your contribution directly supports this mission.

FAQ

Why are you introducing a conservation fee now?

Over the past few years, threats to wildlife and their habitats have increased, and the need for rescue, research, and restoration work has become more urgent. This fee provides dedicated funding so we can strengthen and expand our conservation efforts for long-term impact

Where does the money from the fee go?

Every rand from the conservation fee goes directly into projects such as wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, biodiversity awareness programmes, community outreach, and research collaborations. None of it is used for day-to-day park operations

What kind of animals do you rescue?

We assist with the rescue and rehabilitation of a variety of wildlife, often working with conservation partners and specialists. This can include injured animals, displaced species, or those in need of temporary care before being reintroduced to safe environments

I already pay for entry - why should I pay more?

The entry fee covers your visitor experience at the park. The conservation fee is a  separate, dedicated contribution that ensures our rescue, research, and education
projects are funded and protected, no matter what happens in day-to-day operations

How can I be sure the money is used for conservation?

We are committed to transparency. Updates on the projects funded by the conservation fee will be shared on our website and social media, so you can see the direct results of your contribution.

Will the fee increase in the future?

We have no immediate plans to increase it. If the fee ever needs to change, we will explain why and ensure it remains affordable for our guests.

Are other parks doing this?

Many wildlife areas in South Africa and around the world have dedicated conservation fees to protect habitats and species. This ensures important work continues regardless of economic conditions.
